KRRS opposes move to amend Forest Act

The Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) has opposed the Union government’s move to amend the Indian Forest Act, 1927.

It alleged that the amendments were aimed at helping corporate companies exploit forests. Addressing a press conference here recently, Maruti Manpade, leader of the organisation, alleged that the Union government wanted to drive out forest dwellers.

“Successive governments have been projected adivasis as destroyers of forests. It is an attempt to drive them out so that the natural resources could be given to corporates,” he alleged.

Mr. Manpade also announced that his organisation will organise a protest demonstration in Kalaburagi on Monday opposing the proposed amendments.
