A Krishi mela and a district-level Krishi Utsav will be held at the Agricultural Research Station (ARS) at Hagari, around 20 km from here, on Wednesday.
The focus of the mela and utsav, being organised by the University of Agricultural Science, Raichur, ARS, along with government departments, is to create awareness among farmers about the need to adopt the advances in agriculture and mechanisation to get more yield in rain-fed areas and during deficient rainfall conditions.
K. Ramappa, Joint Director of Agriculture, and Ravi Shankar, head of ARS, told presspersons here on Monday that farmers would be shown the new drought resistant varieties of Bengal gram and Navane and they would have a glimpse of in-situ moisture conservation and integrated farming method among others.
Scientists who had done research on cotton, paddy and other crops would be present to explain the advances in agricultural practices and clear the doubts of farmers. There would be around 50 stalls exhibiting equipment connected with agriculture and allied activities.
A ‘Raitarinda Raitarigagi’ programme would be held in the afternoon in which progressive farmers would share their experience and success formulas. P.T. Parmeshwar Naik, Minister of State for Labour and district in-charge, would inaugurate the mela.
