Kite festival on Malpe beach on Dec. 31

The district administration and Malpe beach development committee will be organising the Malpe Beach Kite Festival here on December 31.

Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, Priyanka Mary Francis, Deputy Commissioner, said the kite festival will begin at 10 a.m. and continue till 8.30 p.m. depending on the wind condition. Thirty professional kite flyers will be participating.

The FLY360 team will fly about 40 kites of different shapes and sizes. At night, there would be flying LED night kites. The team will be flying three train kites, that is 100 Indian flag tricolor kites in one string.

Besides these, there will be big round spinner kites, tiger shaped 3D kite, teddy bear shaped 3D kite, 3D transformer kite, 3D heart shaped kite, Ladybug kite, 3D rabbit kite, 3D Trilo bite kite, 3D panda shaped kite, 3D Ashoka Chakra kite, 3D frog kite, 3D 110-ft-long snake kite, 3D Santa Claus kite, 3D octopus kite, 3D fish kite, 3D dragon kite, and 10 LED kites of different designs.

A modern kite making workshop too will be held on the beach, where participants will be taught to make a modern designer kites.

Cultural programmes will also be held on the beach from 5.30 p.m. to midnight. They include Pancha Vadya (5.30 p.m. to 6 p.m.), Dollu Kunitha (6 p.m. to 6.30 p.m.), Huli Vesha (6.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m.), Nasik band (7.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m.), Nagare (8.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m.), Agni troupe African fusion music (9.30 p.m. to 11 p.m.), and Percussion Jamming from 11.30 p.m. to midnight.

Fireworks display

Another highlight of the fest will be fireworks display and LED balloons from 11.55 p.m. on December 31 to 12.30 a.m. on January 1. Food stalls providing various varieties and water sports and games would be other attractions, Ms. Francis said.
