The Karnataka government has estimated loss to crops and public/private property owing to floods at ₹6,000 crore and decided to seek immediate relief of ₹3,000 crore from the Centre.
Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, who visited flood affected areas of north Karnataka for the last two days and met people of villages submerged under waters, said a memorandum would be submitted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking immediate relief of ₹3,000 crore for providing compensation for families in financial distress due to crop loss and damage to their house/property.
Normal life has been affected owing to submergence of villages and landslides on rail routes and roads in 16 districts of both northern and southern parts of the State. A sum of ₹100 crore has already been released to each of the flood affected districts.
All MLAs of the BJP have been working as Mantris (Ministers) and monitoring the relief operations in their respective constituencies, the Chief Minister said.
Mr. Yediyurappa said the government would come to their rescue and appealed to the people to not lose their heart.
Once normalcy returned, a road map would be prepared to permanently shift villages located on the banks of rivers in both south and north Karnataka.
