“It is not I, but we. I alone did not win the World Cup, but we won it together. Please remember it is We, whether it is a game, business or an initiative.” These were legendary cricketer Kapil Dev’s words of advice to entrepreneurs of north Karnataka.

Interacting with the audience after his address at the ‘Evening with legends’ organised as part of the TiECON, entrepreneurs’ summit in Hubballi on March 26 night, Kapil Dev had the audience spellbound with his straight talk, at times making fun of himself, his looks and his agrarian background.

The legendary cricketer recalled the memorable moments of winning the cricket World Cup and what went on in his mind during the final match, and throughout the tournament, and said it was the team spirit and taking all along with him that helped the Indian team. “Initially, I led the team. Subsequently, the team members collectively took decisions on the game plan,” he said.

Referring to Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, who had earlier listed out his priorities for industrial development and the measures taken so far, Mr. Kapil Dev said that even the Chief Minister could not do all the things on his own, and he needs a team to implement all the decisions. “Similarly, whether it is a game, business or an industry, we need a team,” he said.

He categorically stated that there should not be an issue of ego, especially when it is a partnership. “You should learn to respect the other, and shed the ego in the interest of the company or firm. Then only will you be able to achieve success. Above all, there should not be any Plan B or C or D. It should be just Plan A, You should focus on making your first plan succeed,” he said.

Earlier, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai listed the various initiatives for development of Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, and the ‘Beyond Bengaluru’ programme. He called on the entrepreneurs not to think small, but think global. Being a Hubliite, he would always be there to extend a helping hand.

Director of Govardhan Eco Village Gauranga Das also addressed the gathering.
