Kanaka Ratha Yatre to begin on November 24

The Kanaka Sadbhavana Jyoti Ratha Yatre Samiti will organise its annual Kanaka Sadbhavana Jyoti Rathayatre from November 24 to 26 for the sixth year in a row. Addressing presspersons here on Tuesday, Om Sri Krishnamurthy, president of the State unit of the samiti, said that the objective of the yatre was to promote peace and compassion in humankind. The yatre also aimed at spreading the teachings and ideals of the saint-composer Sri Kanakadasa.

The yatre would begin from the Beereshwara Temple, Sampigehalli in Bengaluru, at 9.30 a.m. on November 24. It would reach Mangaluru on November 25. The yatre will culminate here on November 26. Nearly 2,500 devotees were expected to participate in the yatre.

The yatre along with cultural troupes would be welcomed at Jodu Katte here at 10.30 a.m. on November 26. The yatre procession would pass through the main streets of Udupi and culminate in front of the Sri Kanakadasa Mandira near Sri Krishna Mutt/Temple at around 1.30 p.m.

After offering prayers to the idol of Sri Kanakadasa at the mandira, a public programme would be held at Rajangana here to mark the 531th Sri Kanakadasa Jayanti. Vidyadheesha Tirtha Swami of Paryaya Palimar Mutt, K. Raghupati Bhat, MLA, would be among the chief guests at the function at Rajangana.

Meti Mudiyappa, president of the district unit of Sri Kanakadasa Samaj Seva Sangha, was present.
