With the onset of the monsoon, the Jog Falls – the point at which the Sharavati drops from a height of 830 ft – has regained its charm.
Tourists are thronging the place to enjoy the resplendent beauty of the four cascades of the waterfall – Raja, Roarer, Rocket and Rani. According to information provided by Department of Tourism, Jog has recorded footfall of 51,936 tourists in June this year.
As the monsoon has remained sluggish this year, the waterfall is yet to attain its full glory. Nagaraj, a photographer, told The Hindu that there will be an increase in the flow of tourists from the third week of July.
More than 10,000 tourists visited Jog this weekend. The parking of tourist vehicles in a haphazard manner near the entrance gate resulted in a traffic pile up on July 2. The police had a hard time clearing the jam.
The tourist destinations in the vicinity, including Apsarakonda falls, Sigandur, Keladi, and Ikkeri, are also buzzing with visitors.
