Activists of the Bharatiya Janata Party Yuva Morcha district unit staged a protest in the city on Thursday demanding stern action against those allegedly involved in anti-national activities at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).
Addressing the meet, unit president Bhavani Rao More expressed displeasure that the JNU campus in recent times had become a platform for anti-national elements to air their views.
Mr. More alleged that anti-national slogans were raised at a programme held in JNU recently to mark the death anniversary of Afzal Guru, the convict in the Parliament attack case.
He said that students and teachers, who had organised the programme, must be arrested at the earliest.
Allegations against Congress
Universities that were expected to nurture patriotism and nationalist feelings had instead become an abode of anti-national elements, he said.
Mr. More criticised the stand taken by Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi over the issue.
It is unfortunate that the Congress was trying to use the university to fulfil their political interests and instigate students against the government, he said. In the memorandum submitted to the Deputy Commissioner, the protesters alleged that a section of professors serving at Kuvempu University were trying to mislead students over the JNU and Rohith Vemula suicide incidents.
Functionaries of BJP Yuva Morcha, Hrushikesh Pai, Sayivaraprasad, and Vikram, took part.
