JD(S) stages dharna for farmers’ cause

October 15, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:41 am IST - CHITRADURGA:

Members of the district unit of the Janata Dal (Secular) took out a procession and staged a dharna outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Wednesday to protest against the State and Union government’s failure in protecting the interests of farmers.

The protesters took out a procession through the city. They said Chitradurga and some other districts are known to be drought-prone areas. “If the government had concern for farmers, it would have intensified the work on Upper Bhadra Project and helped farmers,” they said.

The government should supply power to farmers round-the-clock and repair the transformers within three days of receiving a complaint, they said. They also demanded immediate payment of compensation to families of deceased farmers.
