According to the Maddur police, a gang of unidentified men attacked Thoppanahalli Prakash, husband of former Mandya Zilla Panchayat president Lalitha, near the coconut market. They slit his throat and escaped.

Mr. Prakash, who had multiple injuries and was bleeding profusely, was being taken to the government hospital in Maddur when he died, the police said.

Traffic hit

Traffic on the highway was badly affected on Monday evening. Hundreds of supporters of Mr. Prakash staged protests on the highway near TB Circle and at APMC Coconut Market, and also outside the government hospital on the adjacent road. The highway witnessed gridlocks at two places.

There is heavy police deployment at Thoppanahalli, Mr. Prakash’s village.

Some people pelted stones on residences of Congress workers.

Consequently, the police decided to restrict entry of the people from other places to Thoppanahalli to bring the situation under control.
