JD(S) demands 24x7 power in Raichur

October 21, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:01 am IST - RAICHUR:

The district unit of Janata Dal (Secular) demanded round-the-clock power supply to Raichur district on the grounds that the district contributes around 40 per cent of the total electricity generated by the State government.

Addressing the media here, the party's district secretary N. Shivashankar said his party would launch a mass agitation if the government ignored the demand.

“We have learnt that the government has decided to provide 24x7 power to Udupi district whose contribution to the State’s power sector is negligible. But the government is not considering the same demand for Raichur, which contributes around 40 per cent of the electricity generated in the State,” he said.

The installed capacity of Raichur Thermal Power Station with its eight units is 1,720 MW. “Once the Yermarus Thermal Power Station located on the outskirts of Raichur is operational, another 1,600 MW would be added, taking the total capacity in the district to 3,320 MW,” he said.
