Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment Bandaru Dattatreya has said that an inquiry will be conducted into the shoddy work at the Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Hospital on Karwar Road here.
He told presspersons here on Sunday after inspecting the hospital building that the Director-General of ESIC and quality control experts from the corporation would conduct the inquiry. “We will direct them to submit a report within a month. We will also direct the officials to ensure that the hospital is inaugurated at the earliest,” Mr. Dattatreya said.
The Union Minister said that more facilities and personnel were required for the hospital considering the area and the beneficiaries covered by it. He said that he would review the facilities at the hospital once he returned to New Delhi and initiate steps to ensure that it was developed into a model hospital.
Mr. Dattatreya was accompanied by Bharatiya Janata Party State unit president Pralhad Joshi and the former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar. Although the Minister’s visit to the ESIC Hospital was a scheduled one, to his surprise, Mr. Dattatreya found the main gate of the building locked. This enraged Mr. Joshi who criticised the officials of the ESIC. It was only after the Union Minister waited for about 10 minutes that the main entrance was opened.
