Several parts of Hassan and Chikkamagaluru districts received moderate to heavy rainfall in the last two days. While many trees were uprooted, roads were blocked and a few houses damaged due to rain.
A house at Melahalli, near Harle-Kudige in Sakleshpur taluk, was damaged as a tree fell on its roof. In another incident, a cow died on the spot after a tree fell on it at Edakere in Sakleshpur taluk.
Along the Belur-Sakleshpur road, many trees were uprooted due to rain coupled with wind.
The road was blocked for an hour as a tree had fallen on the road, near Arehalli. Schoolchildren, who were returning home in the school vans after the morning classes on the day had to walk back to their houses as it took a long for the Forest Department staff to reach the spot and clear the road.
Parts of Mudigere, Koppa, N.R. Pura and Sringeri in Chikkamagaluru district have been receiving copious rain. Vehicles plying on the Charmadi Ghat section had to cut down their speed due to rain. Moreover, the number of vehicles plying on the stretch had increased on Friday because of week-end rush.
According to the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre, average rainfall recorded in Hassan district in the last 24 hours ending at 8.30 a.m. on Saturday was 21.2 mm against the normal of 4.6 mm. The highest rainfall of 116 mm was recorded at Hosur in Sakleshpur taluk. In Chikkamagalur, the average rainfall was 40.1 mm against the normal of 10.5 mm. The highest rainfall of 122 mm was recorded at Urubage in Mudigere taluk.
