Members of the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti staged a dharna near the Clock Tower here on Sunday against, what it termed, “twisting of historical facts” in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Hindi film ‘Bajirao Mastani’.

Addressing the protesters here, Ram Shettigar, leader of the samiti said that some songs in the film including ‘Pinga’ had shown the history of Peshwa ruler Bajirao and Mastani in a distorted light.

In the trailer of the songs being telecast by television channels, Bajirao’s wife Kashibai and Mastani were shown dancing together. But, during the Peshwa Rule, the women of the ruling class did not dance.

It was incorrect to twist historical facts in a film to rake in profits.

The samiti had lodged a complaint against this film with the Central Board of Film Certification and the Union Ministry of Culture.

The samiti had demanded that the film be banned if Mr. Bhansali did not remove the historically twisted portions from it, Mr. Shettigar said.
