Governor and Chancellor of universities in the State Vajubhai Wala has filed an appeal in the Dharwad Bench of the High Court of Karnataka challenging the order of a single judge Bench of the High Court annulling the Governor’s order of appointing a one-man commission to probe into the charges against Karnatak University’s then Vice-Chancellor H. B. Walikar. Chancellor’s advocate Mahesh Wodeyar filed the writ petition in the High Court here on Tuesday. The case is expected to be taken up for hearing shortly.
Justice H. Billappa, who heard arguments on both sides in the writ petition filed by Mr. Walikar on November 27, 2014, had decreed that there were procedural lapses in initiating a probe into the charges against Mr. Walikar and 10 others. He had quashed the FIR filed by the Lokayukta Police against Mr. Walikar and the others.
Meanwhile, it is learnt that the Governor has written to the State government seeking details of the action taken by it on the allegations against the vice-chancellor made by the Save University Action Committee and also by the then registrar (administration). The government is yet to reply to the governor’s letter.
