Hampi in festive mode despite cold

Performers hold audience spellbound on opening day

Braving the chill, connoisseurs of art, music and dance relished the variety of programmes on the first day of the three-day Hampi Utsav, 2015, on Friday.

Among the artistes who performed were playback singers Anuradha Paudwal, Himesh Reshammiya, Arjun Janya; Bharatanatyam dancer Lakshmi Gopalaswamy; Hindustani vocalists Vijaya Kishore, Tejaswini Malagi; ballet dancer Suma Vijay and troupe.

There were also cultural troupes from various cultural zones and also international troupes from Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh and Africa who depicted the culture and traditions of their respective native places.

The audience is supposed to increase on Saturday and the day's events got off to a good note. Wrestling, as usual, was a big crowd puller. Participants of all ages from Ballari, Davangere, Chitradurga, Vijayapura, Gadag, Hubballi-Dharwad took part in the event.

Girls from Tulasigeri in Bagalkot district, gave an enthralling performance on rope malkambh.
