Halebid residents observe black day

January 09, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:47 am IST - Hassan:

Residents of Halebid in Belur taluk on Thursday observed black day in protest against the Hassan district administration not organising any event in their village during Hoysala Utsav. People wearing black ribbons around their shoulders took out a protest rally in the village and raised slogans against the district administration.

Shopkeepers and businessmen took part in the rally by closing their shops for the day. In the past, whenever the Hoysala Utsav was held, its inauguration was being organised at Halebid, the capital of the Hoysala dynasty. However, this time the inaugural function was held at Belur and the rest of the programmes have been organised at Hassan. Residents of Halebid are upset with the district administration for what they described as neglecting the historical village.

The former Belur Taluk Panchayat president K.S. Lingesh and others were present.

They were upset with none of the Hoysala Utsav programmes being held in

their village this year
