The second graduation day of the Yuvaraja’s College was held on Friday in which 344 graduates and 40 post graduates received their degrees.
Besides, 40 endowment prizes were given away which was received by 21 students. The graduation day address was delivered by Mohan Rao, Director, Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, Hyderabad.
Dr. Rao said it was imperative to change the innovative ecosystem in the country. “Let us innovate for social good and improve the quality of life of our people,” he added.
Though India was endowed with knowledge, the problem of translating knowledge to useful products and services was still weak in the country.
He cited the example of J.C. Bose and said his experiments led to the understanding of the concept of electro magnetic waves and a device for producing the same. He also gave a demonstration of the wireless transmission of using electro-magnetic waves, but the cell phone, which is based on these principles, was not invented by Indians, said Dr. Rao.
The gold medallists were S.B. Smitha for Natural Sciences, Divya R. Lokhare for Physical Sciences, R. Bharat for Bachelor of Computer Applications, M.B. Panaga in BBA, H. Preethi for M.Sc. (Chemistry), and Megana Manjunath for M.Sc. (Molecular Biology).
Vice-Chancellor K.S. Rangappa, and Yuvaraja’s College Principal H. Nanje Gowda were present.
