Considering a large number of teacher posts lying vacant in Hyderabad Karnataka region on account of dearth of qualified candidates who had passed Teachers Eligibility Test (TET), the minimum qualification for applying for the posts, North East Karnataka Teachers Association demanded that the government give 15 grace marks to students from Hyderabad Karnataka appearing for TET.
Addressing a press conference, M.B. Ambalagi, president of the organisation, said that the rules framed under Article 371(J) provided provision for giving grace marks to students from Hyderabad Karnataka.
“There are thousands of students from Hyderabad Karnataka region who have not cleared TET conducted on March 3 this year. Some have missed it by just a mark or two. These students cannot apply for teachers posts and also appear for Common Entrance Test for which notification has been issued. During the last recruitment also, many teachers posts reserved for Hyderabad Karnataka students remained unfilled as there were not enough candidates who had cleared TET. Considering the backwardness of the region and the special status offered to the region under Article 371(J), the government should give 15 grace marks in TET to students from Hyderabad Karnataka,” he said.
A few students who missed clearing TET by a couple of marks were also present.
