Govt. is killing farmers: Eshwarappa

June 26, 2015 01:16 pm | Updated 01:16 pm IST - Bidar

The State Government is killing farmers. They are not committing suicide, K.S. Eshwarappa, leader of the opposition in the Legislative Council complained in Bidar on Friday.

The State Government's failure to properly implement laws controlling sugar factories, wrong policies that have failed to fetch proper price for sugar and sugarcane, and negligent attitude towards farmers is killing them, he said. He was speaking to presspersons before the State Executive Committee meeting of the BJP slum morcha.

He took exception to the Government's plans to seize and sell sugar from factories to pay the dues of farmers. "What is the need for this? Has the Government run out of money ?," he questioned. He urged the government to settle dues to farmers from its own funds and recover the money from the factories later.

He demanded that Chief Minister Siddharamaiah issue land ownership certificates to slum residents.
