Government approves bypass railway line

November 16, 2011 09:10 am | Updated 09:10 am IST - HUBLI:

Praveen Kumar Mishra, Divisional Railway Manager of the Hubli Division of South Western Railway, has said that the State Government has already given its approval for laying the bypass railway line around Hubli. The land acquisition process has already started, he added.

Speaking to presspersons here on Tuesday after inspecting work on the new railway station building here, Mr. Mishra said that after some farmers raised objections to the alignment of the proposed bypass line, railway officials had conducted an inspection.

However, their findings showed that there were no pucca houses in the land identified for acquisition, he said.

Purpose

He said the purpose of the bypass railway line was to prevent goods trains from entering the city.

Doubling of the existing railway line would not be an alternative for the bypass line, he clarified.

‘No problems'

“After the issue was raised, I spoke to the officials and the district administration. The State Government has already given the approval and there are no problems with regard to the acquisition,” he said.

Earlier, farmers from Bammapur, Nagashettikoppa, Bengeri, Gopanakoppa and Unakal had demanded realignment of the proposed bypass railway line.

They had even staged a protest during the visit of Union Minister of State for Railways K.H. Muniyappa.

Addressed

To a query, Mr. Mishra said there were some problems with regard to cleaning of some of the railway stations, including the Hubli railway station.

For this, additional facilities were being provided.

To another query on the defunct prepaid autorickshaw facility at the Hubli railway station, Mr. Mishra said he would direct the officials of the department to fix an appointment with the Police Commissioner to sort out the problems and restart the facility.
