Heavy rain that lashed Kolar and Chickballapur districts on Monday night has brought both cheer and pain.

While the plentiful rain has filled a number of tanks and lakes in both districts, several roads have also been damaged, inconveniencing motorists. Roads in these districts present a shoddy picture as potholes and craters have appeared on them. A number of houses in low lying areas of Bangarpet taluk suffered damage as water gushed in.

Bethamangala lake in Kolar district and Chitravathi dam in Bagepalli taluk of Chickballapur district have filled. Since both districts have received heavy rains for the first time in a decade, people are thronging to these tanks to see them brimming with water. Many people can also be seen catching fish in these tanks.

However, many major tanks, such as Kolaramma and Kodikannur tanks in Kolar, failed to receive much water due to encroachments on rajakulves and tank beds.
