Four persons were killed on-the-spot in a head-on collision between two speeding cars near K. Chandargi village on Belagavi-Bagalkote-Hyderabad State Highway No.20 under Katkol Police Station limits of Ramdurg taluk on Monday afternoon.

The deceased included a couple from Dharwad.

Katkol Police Sub-Inspector Ravi Kumar Dharmatti rushed to the site and found a Hundai Santro and Mahindra Verito had caught fire immediately after collision.

Basangouda T. Patil (55) and Mallaiah Adivaiah Mathapati (33), residents of Salahalli in Ramdurg taluk were burnt alive as their Mahindra Verito burst into flames. They were travelling from Lokapur to Yergatti.

The two other deceased, who were killed on-the-spot, were identified as Badrinath Bhimrao Vadafe (58) and his wife Suman (55) of Saptapur in Dharwad.

Sub-inspector Dharmatti said that the two cars seem to have caught fire due to rupture in either of the two cars or both which may have led to heat and friction. The exact reason is yet to be ascertained.

He said that the bodies were being shifted to Primary Health Centre at Katkol for post-mortem. A case has been registered and further investigation taken up.
