Four houses, areca palms damaged in Udupi

According to the information provided by the Udupi Taluk Office, four houses were damaged in the taluk.

Rain accompanied by strong wind damaged four houses, a cattle shed and an arecanut plantation in Udupi district on Friday. Meanwhile, beach erosion has been reported from Muloor, Kodibengre and Mannur in the district.

According to the information provided by the Udupi Taluk Office, four houses were damaged in the taluk. The house of Padmanabh Shet suffered major damages when rains and strong winds blew away the tiled roof. The loss due to the damage had been estimated at Rs. 1 lakh.

The house of Mukund Naik was damaged when a tree fell on it at Haluvalli village and the loss had been estimated at Rs. 50,000.

Raghavendra Shenoy’s house was partially damaged when a tree fell on it at Shivally. The loss due to the damage had been estimated at Rs. 30,000.

As per the information made available by the Kundapur Taluk Office, over 40 arecanut trees of Girijamma Shedti’s plantation were destroyed when a big tree fell on them in Ampar village. The loss had been estimated at Rs. 75,000.

A cattle shed belonging to Mookambu was damaged due to winds and rains at Harkur village and the loss has been estimated at Rs. 5,000.

Sea erosion

Meanwhile, beach erosion has been reported in Muloor village near Kaup. The rough sea waves had destroyed more than six coconut trees in Muloor. Some other coconut trees on the beach are on the verge of being carried away by sea waves.

A house was in danger of being hit by sea waves in Kodibengre village. Over 30 metres of land had been damaged due to beach erosion in the village. The staff of the Department of Ports and Fisheries were taking measures to protect the house.

Vinay Kumar Sorake, Urban Development Minister, visited Kodibengre and directed the officials to take precautionary measures. Beach erosion has also been reported in Mannur village.

Rainfall level

According to the information provided by the District Control Room at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Udupi received a rainfall of 44.5 mm in the last 24 hours ending at 9 a.m. on Friday. Kundapur and Karkala towns have received a rainfall of 31.8 mm and 53.1 mm.
