Five held, 65 litres of liquor seized

A team of Excise Department officials, headed by Yadgir Range Excise Inspector Vithal Rao Vali, arrested five persons and seized 65 litre illegal liquor from them.

The liquor was being transported it from Yelheri to Konkal village in Yadgir taluk on Saturday. Narasappa, Bheemaraya, Nagappa and Bheemashappa, all from Yelheri village, and Ashok from Kalabelagundi village in Yadgir taluk, were the persons arrested.

The officers also seized three motorcycles that were being used for the offence. The seized items were worth over Rs. 1.67 lakh, a release said.

All five were produced before the court and remanded in judicial custody.

Lightning strike

A man died after being struck by lightning in Maradagi village in Jewargi taluk in Kalaburagi on Friday night.

The deceased has been identified as Ningappa Bhimappa Shetgar. The incident occurred when Shetgar and his relatives were sitting under a tree in a field and eating their food. It started raining and a lightning struck the spot where Shetgar was sitting. He died on the way to the Government General Hospital in Kalaburagi, the police said.
