First phase of court complex construction completed: judge

‘It will have all facilities for advocates, judicial officials and visitors’

R.J. Satish Singh, District and Sessions Judge, said on Friday that the district court complex coming up along the Hassan-Holenarsipur Road will be one of the best in the country. The work on the first phase of construction has been completed and the work on the second phase will start within a month, he said at a press conference here.

“The complex will have all the basic amenities for advocates, judicial officials and the public visiting the court. The design includes a lounge for witnesses. The updated hearing schedules would be displayed on a screen and the witnesses could enter the court hall whenever their turn came. If the witnesses were to bring their children, facilities will be there to take care of those children too. A childcare centre has also been planned,” he said.

Work on the second phase, which has been estimated to cost Rs. 72 crore, would commence soon as the State Cabinet had cleared the tender process and assigned the work to a contractor. “We have told the Public Works Department and the contractor to complete the work within 16 months,” he said.

Once the court shifts to the new complex, the vehicular traffic on the Hassan-Holenarsipur road would increase and cause frequent traffic snarls at railway level-crossing. Mr. Satish Singh said, “PWD Minister H.C. Mahadevappa, who is also in-charge of Hassan district, had said during a recent court programme that the proposal had been sent to the Railway Department. The flyover is required to help people reach the courts quickly and once the new complex is inaugurated.”
