Film, theatre fests from today

A film festival, titled ‘Dasara Chalanachitrotsava’, and a theatre fest named ‘Ranga Dasara’ will be held as part of Shivamogga Dasara being celebrated by the city corporation here.

Actor Nirmala will inaugurate the film festival at Mallikarjun theatre here on October 15 at 10 a.m. Deputy Commissioner V.P. Ikkeri, working president of Belli Mandala and district unit president of the Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy K.A. Ashok Pai will be present.

The films to be screened during the festival are: Bandhana (October 15 at Mallikarjun theatre); Premada Kaanike (October 16, Veerabhadreshwara theatre); America America (October 17, H.P.C. Theatre); Ranganayaki (October 18, Modern theatre); Beladingala Baale (October 19, Vinayaka theatre), and Naandi (October 20, Lakshmi theatre). The shows will commence at 10.30 a.m. on all the six days.

Venue

The theatre fest will be held at Kuvempu Rangamandir here on October 17. A mono-act competition for students and the public will be held as part of the theatre fest in the morning. Those interested in participating in this competition should call 9845871915 or 9844518866 for registration of names. Cash prize of Rs. 5,000, Rs. 3,000 and Rs. 2,000 will be given to the first three winners, in that order. In the evening of October 17, four mini-dramas will be staged. They are: Maasti Kallu by Srushti troupe; Bhaamathi by Malenadu Kala Tanda; Girija Kalyana by Kalarohana troupe, and Achala by Spandana troupe from 6.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. Artistes of Basaveshwara Nataka Sangha will present a comic drama titled “Kuntakona – Mookajaana” at 8.30 p.m.
