Students shone with their talents at the one-day Sangeeta Ranga Habba (music theatre fest), organised by the Dr. G. Shankar Government Women’s First Grade College, here recently.
The ballet Kuchela Krishna, which depicts the story of Kuchela or Sudama meeting his childhood friend Krishna, was one of the highlights.
The ballet, based on the work of the late Pu.Ti. Narasimhachar, had a judicious confluence of acting, dance and music. The dance direction was by Bhramari Shivaprakash and the theatre direction was by Udyavara Madhava Acharya.
In the post-lunch session, the students enacted the play Neenage Neene Gelati that was written by H.S. Venkatesh Murthy and directed by Raju Manipal.
This was followed by a variety entertainment programme.
Earlier, the fest began with Bharatiya Sangeet Darshan by the Neenada troupe, in which Hindustani vocalist Ravikiran Manipal performed.
Inaugurating the fest, Mr. Acharya, also a writer, said that fests such as the present one exposed the students to the country’s rich culture and he added that arts taught students the value of silence.
It gave them a proper perspective about life and exposure to arts, music and dance helped in the overall development of the personality of students, he said.
Janardhan Rao, principal of the college, G. Shankar, businessman, Dinakar, president of the Parent Teachers Association, and others were present.
