Some farmers from Belagavi whose cattle have been stranded in a cow shelter in Tumakuru for non payment of animal husbandry charges, have decided to go to approach the High Court of Karnataka.

Mallikarjun Choukashi, lawyer for the farmers, told presspersons here on Thursday that a petition for release of the animals will be filed in the High Court soon.

He said that the Tumakuru Dhyan Foundation Goshala was seeking exorbitant fees to return cattle to the poor farmers who are their rightful owners.

A few weeks ago, Belagavi farmers bought 39 cows from Tamil Nadu and were transporting them home. But they were waylaid by some cow protectors and the animals were taken to the cow shelter. Now, the cow shelter is seeking lakhs of rupees to release the animals saying that they have spent so much money on maintaining them, the lawyer said.
