A farmer from Wademal village in Khanapur taluk in Belagavi district has complained to forest officials that a tiger had devoured three of his sheep when they were grazing in the jungle near the village on Tuesday.

Demanna Khanagavi made a similar complaint before MLA Anjali Nimbalkar who visited his house.

The farmer urged the MLA to help him get compensation from the State government. However, forest officials said that they were not yet sure that it was a tiger that attacked the sheep.

“The sheep are dead. But we are not sure what killed them. Only a detailed investigation, including checking pug and teeth marks, will determine it. Other factors, including whether the village lies on a tiger’s routine trail, will also be considered,” a senior forest officer said.
