May 21, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:53 am IST - Kolar:

An assistant professor of the Government Law College in Kolar has been suspended for his alleged involvement in a fake ragging case.

Commissioner of Collegiate Education B.G. Nandakumar has ordered the suspension of B.T. Manju Nayak based on a report submitted by the college principal.

Mr. Nayak had allegedly complained to the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development, in the guise of a first year student of the college, saying that he was ragged by five senior students in April.

The anti-ragging cell of the college, headed by principal Anitha, conducted an inquiry into the alleged incident following the Union ministry’s directions. It was found that no such incident had taken place and Mr. Nayak had misled the authorities.

Report

In her report to the Union ministry, Ms. Anitha said Mr. Nayak had tried to make students the scapegoat for personal reasons. According to the principal, no first year student had complained about being ragged.

Girl students’ complaint

Mr. Nayak has been accused of behaving irresponsibly by filing a complaint with the police against a student in connection with the fake case. Besides this, some girl students had written to the Directorate of Collegiate Education about Mr. Nayak’s alleged misbehaviour in class. The directorate initiated disciplinary action against the assistant professor based on these charges.
