The State government is yet to take a call on extending 10% reservation to economically weaker sections (EWS) in State government jobs and educational institutions.
A circular issued by the Backward Classes Welfare Department on May 14 applies to Central government posts, services and educational institutions with effect from February 1, 2019, the State government has clarified. The circular laid out guidelines to competent authorities to issue ‘Income and Asset certificate’ to avail the 10% reservation in Central institutions.
Mohammad Mohsin, Secretary, Backward Classes Welfare Department, issued the clarification on Saturday.
The Government of India, in two of its orders in January 2019, implemented the EWS reservation for Central government posts, services and educational institutions.
“This facility has not been extended to State jobs or educational institutions and a decision will be taken later by State authorities,” Mr. Mohsin said.
The Hindu , in the article titled ‘State govt. issues order on 10% quota for EWS’ on May 18, reported the concerns of educational institutions in Karnataka regarding retrospective implementation of reservation to EWS this year.
