The EVMs, collected from poll officials on Saturday evening after polling was complete, have been kept at Government Engineering College in Hassan, where the counting of votes polled in all seven Assembly constituencies of the district will be done on Tuesday.
Personnel from the Paramilitary forces have been deployed at strongrooms in the college. The machines from each constituency have been kept separately in a specific order so that the counting goes on smoothly on Tuesday. The district administration will involve about 500 officials for counting. The administration has limited the entry to the counting centre to officers and representatives of candidates. The district recorded a voter turnout of 81.47%.
Deputy Commissioner P.C. Jaffer, who inspected the preparations on Sunday, told presspersons that the EVMs had been kept in the college. “The counting will start on Tuesday at 8 a.m., when the EVMs, kept in sealed bags, would be opened. We will announce the results after every round of counting. We have made the sound system available in the college so that the public outside know the figures as the counting continues,” he said. The officer said the total result would be out by afternoon on the day.
Superintendent of Police R.K. Shahapurwad accompanied the DC while inspecting the security arrangements at the counting centre.
