As per the decision of the State government, English-medium schools would be introduced at 39 places in Ballari district from the current academic year. The admission to these schools will be for Class 1 only.

The English-medium schools will be started in a portion of the existing government schools. Most will come up in rural areas.

The department has already identified teachers to teach in the English medium and have also imparted a crash course training for them, said Sridharan, Deputy Director of Public Instruction.

The 39 schools have been proposed to be set up in each of the nine Assembly constituencies – four each in Ballari (city), Ballari (rural), Sandur, Hagari Bommanahalli, Kudligi and Hadagali and five each in Kampli, Sirguppa and Vijayanagar (Hosapete). Parents can choose to get their wards admitted either to the English medium or the Kannada medium.
