In a bid to attract voters to the polling booth on May 12, the Chief Election Commissioner on Wednesday launched publicity material, including three videos, to specifically attract women, persons with disabilities, and “primitive tribes”.

The Chief Election Commissioner O.P. Rawat and Election Commissioners Sunil Arora and Ashok Lavasa launched promotional videos targeting specific groups.

A video on pink polling booths, which will be manned by women personnel, has been made to highlight the work in all-woman polling booths, which will be set up at 450 locations across the State. Polling officers, micro-observers and security personnel will all be women, a release said.

Another video, featuring some of the backward tribes from Chamarajanagar, Mysuru, Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Kodagu, speaks of bringing marginalised sections to the mainstream electoral arena. The third video is about empowering persons with disabilities and the facilities to be made available at the polling booths.

Meanwhile, the delegation led by the CEC met representatives of political parties and heard their views. A memorandum submitted by the Janata Dal (S) accused the Congress government of getting favours from the Chief Secretary, who was also recommended for extension of tenure by the government.

Three poll apps today

Mr. Rawat and Election Commissioners Sunil Arora and Ashok Lavasa on Thursday will launch three mobile apps— Election Quiz, Model Code of Conduct (MCC) Reporting, and Election Officers Directory — at the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishat here.

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike has developed these apps for ensuring free and fair elections. The Election Quiz app will enable citizens to check their election quotient. This is a multiple-choice question quiz app. Citizens can also share their quiz results with friends and put them up on social media.

Election Officers Directory app has the contact numbers of officers such returning officer, assistant returning officer, MCC officer, flying squads and EC surveillance teams per Assembly constituency. This app systematically stores and indexes the numbers of election officers, allowing easy retrieval and access.
