After sending a strong message to B.S. Yeddyurappa that he cannot become the Chief Minister again or party State unit president till he comes clean of corruption charges, the Bharatiya Janata Party is considering offering him the post of president of the campaign committee for the Assembly elections.
According to highly placed sources in the BJP, such a post is one of the options the party is considering to placate him after being tough with him while indicating its stand on his demand for reinstatement as Chief Minister.
Meeting
This proposal is likely to figure at the meeting of the State core committee of top leaders that is scheduled in Delhi for March 3 in the presence of party president Nitin Gadkari.
Assembly elections are due only in May 2013, but the campaign committee may be formed much earlier as the party has commenced yearlong preparations for the polls.
The sources pointed out that the broad framework for discussions scheduled for March 3 had already been provided by Mr. Gadkari by indicating that the party cannot consider Mr. Yeddyurappa for the posts of Chief Minister or party State unit president till he comes clean of the graft charges against him.
“We will now discuss and try to find a solution to placate Mr. Yeddyurappa within the framework put in place by Mr. Gadkari,” they noted.
Ministry expansion
Meanwhile, during the discussion with Mr. Gadkari, the party State leadership is learnt to have decided to complete some of the tasks including the ministerial expansion which had been kept pending due to the rebellion by Mr. Yeddyurappa.
While the exact date for the expansion is yet to be fixed, the party has decided to go in for it soon after the completion of the budget session of the legislature. “In fact, the process of expansion such as selection of candidates for the ministerial posts has already begun,” the sources added.
