Education is a must for women’s empowerment: KSOU VC

Meena Chandawarkar, Vice-Chancellor of Karnataka State Women University, Vijayapura, said providing a fair opportunity for women in the development process of the society would lead to the empowerment of women.

Delivering the Pilloo Homi Irani Endowment Lecture at Gulbarga University here on Wednesday, Dr. Chandawarkar said that education was an important means of empowerment.

She said that both the State and Union governments have been introducing several welfare programmes and opening up avenues for the upliftment of women. She expressed displeasure over the declining women’s literacy rate. Gulbarga University Vice-Chancellor G.R. Naik, Registrar Chandrakant Yatnoor and Organiser of the Endowment Lecturer Nawroz Irani were present.
