Two farmers had a narrow escape when the earth caved in near Hulikere tunnel of the Visvesvaraya canal at Hulikere village on Thursday morning. They were going to their farmland when the incident took place.
The two farmers said that they ran away from the place soon when they noticed that the earth was caving in.
A part of the Hulikere tunnel had collapsed on March 15.
Immediately after the earth caved in, Deputy Commissioner B.N. Krishnaiaha, MLA C.S. Puttaraju, Cauvery Neeravari Nigam Limited Chief Engineer Shivashankar, Superintendent Shankaregowda, Technical Consultant Shivaprasad and other officials inspected the spot.
The Mandya district administration is expected to fill up the pit by Sunday evening.
