The district administration has banned the sale of alcoholic beverages from 6 a.m. on March 9 to 6 a.m. on March 10 in the Udupi district in light of the Virat Hindu Samajotsava being organised by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad in Udupi on March 9. An official press release issued here on Friday said that since a large number of people were expected to participate in the samajotsava, there was a need to maintain peace and order in communally sensitive places such as Shiroor, Byndoor, Gangolli, Kodi, Kandlur, Kaup, Uchila, Padubidri, Bailoor and Malpe in the district. Hence the Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate R. Vishal had declared ‘Dry Day’ for one day and banned the sale of alcoholic beverages from all outlets and depots, the release added.
