Last year, 45 tableaux and 77 cultural troupes that livened up the cultural pageantry – Jamboo Savari. This year, all put together, the number was trimmed to 65.
The number was almost reduced by a half since a decision was taken to restrict participation in the procession to locals.
Despite this, an enthusiastic show was put up by the cultural troupes, while the government departments and agencies came out with impressive themes for their tableaux.
As the customary showering of flower petals on the idol of Goddess Chamundeshwari placed inside the golden howdah, carried by howdah elephant Arjuna, was delayed , the gap between each troupe and tableau in the procession was widened to ensure continuity.
The first tableau to hit the procession was the one by the Department of Agriculture on the theme of inclusive farming. The tableau showcased the benefits of inclusive farming for sustainable earnings among farmers.
It was followed by over 22 tableaux belonging to the departments of AYUSH, Women and Child Development, Information, Public Instruction, Social Welfare, Cauvery Niravari Nigama, Health, Forest and so on.
The Mysuru City Corporation presented a tableau on ‘Mysuru, the cleanest city’. Recently, Mysuru was rated as the cleanest city under the Swachh Bharat Mission.
The Department of Social Welfare spread the message of eradicating untouchability with its tableau, while the one on water conservation by the Cauvery Niravari Nigama was relevant in the light of deficient rainfall. This year, the focus was more on activities and programmes instead of showcasing the cultural diversity of the land.
Usually, the zilla panchayats from all the districts used to participate in the procession displaying interesting art and cultural diversities of their areas. Barring the Mysuru zilla panchayat, no other ZP took part since the procession had been restricted only to the locals.
