Of the 49 patients from Hale Sorab village in Sorab taluk, who are being treated for fever and headache, the blood samples of four has been tested positive for dengue.

It may be recalled that there was a report of outbreak of fever at Hale Sorab on Wednesday. District Health Officer Nagaraja Naik told The Hindu that in the wake of the outbreak, the Department of Health and Family Welfare personnel conducted a door-to-door survey in the village on Thursday.

Survey

During the survey, it was found that the water stored in 24 houses in the village contained the larvae of aedes aegypti mosquito, which transmits the virus that causes dengue fever.

There are 154 houses in Hale Sorab.

At present, the water was being supplied to these houses once in a week. The residents store the water in containers, which had now turned into breeding ground for mosquitoes, he said.

A team of medical experts has been deputed to Hale Sorab to treat the patients. He said, a special ward had been opened in the general hospital at Sorab to treat suspected dengue cases. Adequate stock of the requisite medicines was being maintained at the general hospital, he said.

New borewell

Meanwhile, Kavitha Yogappanavar, tahsildar of Sorab taluk, said that a new borewell had been dug in the village recently.

The power connection for the borewell would be provided immediately to ensure regular supply of water to the residents, she said. The anganwadi workers and Accredited Social Health Activists were visiting every household and requesting the residents not to keep the water containers open.

The gram panchayat had taken up fogging operation in the village on Thursday to control the mosquitoes.
