Demand for flyover instead of underpass at Karavali Junction

October 22, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:36 am IST - Udupi:

The Karavali Bypass Nagarikara Samiti on Wednesday demanded that a flyover be constructed at the Karavali Junction here by the National Highways Authority of India, instead of an underpass.

The four-laning NH66 is on at the junction. About a couple of weeks ago, the NHAI said it would construct an underpass at Karavali Junction for smooth movement of traffic.

Bannanje Babu Amin, Convenor of the Samiti, said the decision to construt a flyover came as a shock and surprise to the residents.

A couple of years back, the NHAI had said it would construct a flyover. Even an RTI query hadn’t yielded proper answers as to why NHAI changed the proposal.

The protesters said a flyover would ensure smooth passage of traffic on NH 66. It would also ensure faster and unhindered connectivity from Udupi to Malpe (which was now a part of NH 169A).

Hence the NHAI should construct a flyover at the Karavali junction.
