June 17, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:42 am IST - CHITRADURGA:

Shivamurthy Muruga Sharana of Bruhanmath has said that a delegation will meet Major and Medium Irrigation Minister M.B. Patil to convince him to intensify the work on the Upper Bhadra Project to expedite its completion.

Speaking at a meeting of Neeravari Horata Samithi held here on Tuesday, he said the Minister would be appealed to visit the site of the Upper Bhadra Project to review the situation so that a meeting can be organised with all the departments concerned to expedite the project.

Land not released

He said that even after releasing Rs. 106 crore to the Forest Department, it was not ready to hand over 900 acres of land required for the project. The department had not taken any action on this despite repeated appeals.

The issue could be sorted out only if Mr. Patil intervened and took up the issue with the authorities concerned.

The State government would also be appealed to release compensation to farmers who would lose land for the project, he added.
