A spotted deer was found dead on National Highway 75 near Kollahalli, in Sakleshpur taluk, on Monday. The animal was hit by a vehicle while it was crossing the road, forest officials said.

The male deer is aged between three and four years. Hundreds of people gathered at the spot and many called for a way to prevent death of wild animals due to vehicle movement on the highway.

Ramesh Babu, Assistant Conservator of Forests, told The Hindu that the department has taken note of the incident and would take necessary action.
