When Nagendra Swamy, a resident of Alanahalli in the city, was run over by a truck at Prakruthi Extension in Chikkalli on the outskirts of Mysuru on June 27 this year, the Siddharthanagar Traffic police registered a case of death by road accident.
But, a little over three months later, the police have arrested four persons, including the wife of the deceased, for their involvement in the ‘supari’ (contract) killing of Nagendra Swamy. Apart from Nagendra Swamy’s wife Sudha (40), the arrested include Mohan Kumar (32), with whom she allegedly had been having an extramarital relationship for the last 12 years, lorry driver Ashok Kumar (33), and his daughter Pooja (20).
After Sudha allegedly asked Mohan Kumar to eliminate Nagendra Swamy, Mohan Kumar contacted Ashok and paid him Rs. 6 lakh to murder him. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) H.T. Shekar told The Hindu that the police realised that it was a case of murder during the course of investigations due to the road accident case they had registered. “The brother of the deceased lodged a complaint that he suspected foul play. When we investigated the case, we realised it involved four persons in the murder,” he said.
