A workshop will be conducted this month for girls on the campuses of schools and colleges across the district on self-defence techniques. It will be conducted by the volunteers of the Defence Against Rape and Eve-teasing (DARE), a team formed by the Baldota Group as part of its corporate social responsibility initiative, its Deputy General Manager H.K. Ramesh has said.
In the wake of recurrence of instances of sexual abuse of girls across the country, the DARE group was formed to empower the girls to tackle such situations with confidence.
The Department of Public Instruction has granted permission to conduct such workshops in the district, he said at a press conference here on Tuesday.
The DARE team consists of four master trainers, who have learnt the art of self-defence from persons who were trained at the Unarmed Commando Combat Academy, Mumbai. So far, the DARE has imparted training to 10,000 girls in Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Pune and Nasik. It has been planned to conduct similar training sessions in moffusil centres and rural areas of Karnataka, he said.
Initially, the trainers apprise the participants on the threats they might face, and train them in verbal retort, avoidance, response, survival and escape tactics to be followed in such situations.
