Members of the Madiga Yuva Sene and leaders of other Dalit organisations held at a meeting here on Tuesday to discuss strategies to pressurise political parties to issue ticket to local candidates for contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
They said as all political parties have been fielding candidates from outside Chitradurga, overall development of the district has been affected.
State president of Madiga Maha Sabha Gangadharaiah said all political parties were using backward communities as mere vote bank and were fielding candidates from other places to contest Lok Sabha elections.
“Time has come to fight against political parties to ensure that ticket is issued to young and educated candidate from the district who can take everyone into confidence and concentrate on overall development of the district,” he added.
Dalit leader Mahalingappa said that in the previous elections, Congress leaders in the district deliberately fielded an “outsider” to ensure that no other local leader comes up in politics.
After the meeting, the leaders submitted a memorandum to BJP MLA G.H. Thippareddy, urging him to ensure a local leader is fielded for the elections.
