The Kalaburagi district administration has decided to launch a crackdown on the hoarders under the provisions of the Karnataka Essential Commodities Act to prevent hoarding of pulses, particularly red, black and green grams, in view of their spiralling prices in the retail market.
Official sources said here on Tuesday that Deputy Commissioner Vipul Bansal, who chaired a meeting of senior officials to monitor the hoarding of pulses in Kalaburagi city on Tuesday, constituted eight teams headed by Assistant Commissioners and tahsildars of the respective taluks to conduct raids and check the stock position of pulses at individual mills, wholesale shops and retail outlets.
Raid reports
The teams have been instructed to visit all the mills and outlets, warehouses and government and private godowns coming under their jurisdiction, within one week and submit a detailed report on the stock position of the pulses to the Deputy Commissioner on a day-to-day basis.
The Deputy Commissioner will take action against the traders who have stocked more than the permitted levels of pulses.
The sources said Mr. Bansal directed the Assistant Commissioners of Kalaburagi and Sedam Sub-Divisions to keep a close vigil on the teams headed by the tahsildars coming under their jurisdiction, and submit reports daily on the number and details of the raids conducted.
Deputy Director of the Food and Civil Supplies Department would be the overall in-charge of these teams. This official would also report to the State government about the action taken to prevent hoarding of pulses.
