Janardhan Bhandarkar, Congress leader, said on Tuesday that the increase in the prices of essential commodities in the last year since the BJP government came to power had hit the common man.

He was speaking at a dharna staged by the Udupi Block Congress Committee against the rise in the prices of essential commodities in front of the Clock Tower, here.

Mr. Bhandarkar said that the prices of petroleum products, like LPG cylinders, had gone up.

Mr. Modi was telling people in the country to give up subsidised LPG cylinders but he had no qualms about giving financial assistance to the tune of Rs. 63,000 crore to Mongolia.

This money could have been used for subsidising LPG cylinders and helping the poor, Mr. Bhandarkar said.

Mr. Modi had promised to get black money back in the country within 100 days of his rule. But so far, there was no sign of it.

Mr. Modi had said that if the entire lot of black money was brought, every person in the country would get Rs. 15 lakh each. But this too had not happened, Mr. Bhandarkar said.

Amrit Shenoy, Congress leader, said that Mr. Modi could go abroad and address Indians settled there.

But he hardly had time to speak to farmers in India, who were committing suicide.
