Congress revising textbooks for political reasons: Kageri

January 08, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:49 am IST - Shivamogga:

The former Minister Vishveshwara Hegde Kageri has alleged that the Congress government in the State was trying to revise textbooks for political reasons.

As per the National Curriculum Framework, the previous Bharatiya Janata Party government had designed a new syllabus after holding consultations with academicians. The Congress has now planned to change the content for absurd reasons and has formed a textbook revision committee, he said here on Wednesday.

The fact that the new syllabus was worked out during the BJP rule should not become the sole reason to revise it. Revision of textbooks for political reasons is unpardonable, he said.

In the wake of the Supreme Court’s verdict on quashing Karnataka government’s language policy of 1994 that makes mother tongue the medium of instruction in primary schools, the State government should contemplate on the steps to protect the interests of Kannada, he said.
